P-SEP® model

The compass for AI, cybersecurity and digital decision-making.

“With this decision framework you make well-considered choices that truly add value”

‘Should we do something with this?’ Too often, decisions about AI and cybersecurity are driven by the latest hype or the fear of being left behind. That is why Erik Jan Koedijk developed the P-SEP® model: a practical decision framework that helps you make digital choices consciously, responsibly and with the future in mind. It forms the basis of his keynotes, masterclasses and work with organisations.

What is the P-SEP® model?

P-SEP® is a practical decision framework for assessing every digital decision in the same way, always in the context of strategy, leadership and future-proofing. This helps ensure that every choice genuinely adds value to your business. It is not a checklist, but a way of thinking that can be applied to any organisation, large or small.

Why the P-SEP® model?

Erik Jan sees it every day. Organisations are flooded with new AI tools, cyber threats and legislation, while the pressure to act quickly is high. That is precisely when you do not need more information or complexity. You need a clear compass. That is why Erik Jan developed the P-SEP® model: a practical decision framework for making well-considered, future-proof choices that genuinely add value.

Why it works

P-SEP® was not conceived behind a desk. The model grew out of Erik Jan’s years of practical experience at the intersection of technology, leadership and organisational development. Again and again, he saw the same pattern: successful digitalisation never revolves around technology alone. It is about balancing people, strategy, security and execution. P-SEP® brings all of this together in one practical decision framework.

The model is based on:

01

The latest insights into AI, social engineering, human behaviour, cybersecurity and cyber resilience.

02

Erik Jan’s executive programme Artificial Intelligence: Implications for Business Strategy at MIT Sloan School of Management Executive Education and MIT Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, supplemented by numerous conversations with international leaders and peers.

03

30+ years of practical experience with digital transformation, information security and change across government, healthcare, SMEs and large enterprises.

How is the P-SEP® model structured?

The model consists of two integrated layers that help organisations define what 'responsible integration of technology' means and, crucially, put it into practice.

1. Responsible Tech: the core values

Every AI solution or digital innovation is tested against these four fundamental pillars.

P

People

Technology must support people, not replace or manipulate them.

S

Security

Systems and data must be secure and remain secure throughout their entire lifecycle (Security by Design).

E

Ethics

AI decisions must be fair, explainable and verifiable (Ethics by Design).

P

Privacy

Personal data deserves respect and transparency is the starting point (Privacy by Design).

2. Organisational foundation: from idea to practice

The second layer turns the values of PSEP® into practical action within organisations.

P

People

Inclusion, training and shared responsibility.

S

Strategy

Technology must align with the goals and values of the organisation.

E

Execution

Implement AI responsibly and safely step by step.

P

Policy

Clear guidelines, governance and oversight mechanisms. Update them where necessary.
