Yes, that really is Fab Morvan from Milli Vanilli congratulating me on my new website. His own face, his own voice. No AI.

After ten years, it was time for a new koedijk.com. I wanted to make the launch special. So I reached out to Fab. An artist from my youth, with a story that connects closely to my work as an AI realist and cybersecurity expert.

What are you actually looking at? What information can you trust? And how do you make informed choices? Fab knows all too well how quickly trust can disappear. And how long it takes to earn it back.

Back to the beginning: the music I grew up with

In the late eighties, Milli Vanilli were everywhere. I was a fan. Of their music, but also of everything surrounding the Top 40. Which song was a new entry? Who was climbing the charts? What would be the next number one?

In 1992, when I was also taking my first steps on the internet, I started presenting a Top 40 show on Radio Aalsmeer. Later, I did the same at Radio Ronde Venen.

A painful history

Milli Vanilli’s story has a painful side too. In 1990, it emerged that the voices on the records weren’t Fab’s or Rob’s. Their Grammy was taken away. The headlines were merciless. Two young men’s lives were turned upside down.

Rob died in 1998. Fab kept going. What inspires me is how he went on to make his own voice heard. In You Know It’s True: The Real Story of Milli Vanilli, he tells his story. He narrated the audiobook himself, earning a Grammy nomination for the 2026 awards. He once lost a Grammy because the voices on the records weren’t his or Rob’s. Years later, he received a nomination for his own voice and his own story.

And now, on 25 October, his new book, Blame It on the Game, comes out. I grew up listening to Milli Vanilli’s music. Now I’m especially curious about the man behind that music and his side of the story.

What’s real and what’s fake

In his video message, Fab says:

“I’m glad that there are people like you out there who are trying to teach people like me how to differentiate what’s real and what’s fake.”

Learning to tell the difference between real and fake is something I’ve had to do myself. I learnt from Kevin Mitnick, whom Fab also mentions in his message. Kevin was once the world’s most wanted hacker. Nobody understood better how easily people can be deceived. My former Nokia colleague Arnaud and I got to know him. We formed a bond, and he taught us the finer points of social engineering. What Kevin taught me, I now pass on to others.

That’s why sharing knowledge has a bigger place on the new koedijk.com. What you see is just the beginning. There are already more than a hundred articles on the blog, with more to come: experiences from my work, practical insights and personal stories. I want to make complicated subjects understandable and give you something you can use. Drawing on my experience, staying curious and leaving room for questions. And along the way, I’d like to get to know you too.

Made by people

At a time when AI can create so much, I want to show you the people behind this website. Suzan, for the photography. Arnout, for the design and the technical work behind the scenes. June and his team of developers, for all their help turning that design into a working website. Kika, for the clear, beautifully written copy. Wouter, for the English translation. Marieke, for your thoughtful feedback on the masterclass pages. Jort, for your feedback. And everyone who helped test the site. Thank you all. Your skill and care are there on every page.

See you in part two

In my next blog, you’ll hear another familiar voice from my youth. One you’ll probably recognise too. Who? I’ll keep that to myself for now.

Fab wishes me peace, love, harmony, health and success. I wish you all of those things too. And he signs off with a burst of energy:

“BANG! Did you feel that?”

Yes, Fab. I felt that.
